Expert: Device tax risks chasing 146,000 jobs overseas

The 2.3% medical device industry tax could wipe out 146,000 jobs in the U.S, Manhattan Institute senior fellow Diana Furchtgott-Roth told the House Energy and Commerce Committee on Wednesday. What's worse, The Washington Examiner reports, she predicts the jobs the U.S. loses as a result will be both high-paid and high-skill positions and that they'll shift overseas where costs are lower. Furchtgott-Roth, a former Bush economist, said that part of the problem is no other country has a similar tax, so the U.S. version, passed as part of the Affordable Care Act, will put the country at a disadvantage from a cost standpoint.
