Democratic senators called out for flipping device tax stance

Conservative Washington Post blogger Jennifer Rubin is calling out a number of Democratic U.S. senators who initially voted for the Affordable Care Act, and by default the medical device tax that helps support its implementation, only to reverse their position against the tax in recent weeks. In particular, she singles out Illinois Sen. Dick Durbin, Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry, Minnesota Sen. Al Franken and New Hampshire Sen. Jeanne Shaheen. The group was among 17 Democratic U.S. senators and senators-elect who signed a letter seeking a delay in implementing the tax, which will kick in on Jan. 1. All are up for re-election in 2014, Rubin notes. She also scolded the group for reversing course after realizing the taxes affect their constituents "and home state lobbyists." Blog
