In October 1847, the Siemens & Halske Telegraph Construction Company was founded. It later became Siemens AG.

The company's healthcare sector has about 48,000 employees worldwide, and in fiscal 2009, it generated external revenue of €11.9 billion ($17.3 billion*) and profit of €1.5 billion ($2.2 billion). Its clinical specialties are cardiology, neurology, oncology and surgery.

According to a Sept. 27 statement, the company expects all divisions of the healthcare sector will probably report a year-over-year increase in demand.
