— Founding partner AMA to invest $15M in new integrated innovation company purpose-built to improve US healthcare at a system level

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – January 11, 2016 — Health2047, Inc. launched today during the 34th annual JP Morgan Healthcare Conference. A brand new element in the U.S. healthcare system whose founding partner is the American Medical Association (AMA), Health2047 is an integrated innovation company that will collaborate with leading companies to solve the biggest healthcare problems.

"We created Health2047 because the American healthcare system has a serious need for purposeful disruption that yields system-level innovation as quickly as possible," said Dr. Douglass Given, Health2047's chief executive. "Our new 'co-laboratory' model will partner with established companies to optimize their business entries in the healthcare economy, co-develop products with rapidly growing companies, and originate early-stage ideas. We are delighted the AMA is Health2047's founding partner."

Health2047 combines strategy, design and venture disciplines with access to the AMA's expertise and connectivity to physicians nationwide to create meaningful market impact. As a tangible step on its journey, Health2047 today unveiled its Silicon Valley-based innovation studio, an immersive and multi-disciplinary team environment.

"Health2047's co-laboratory model generates new linkages in the $3T+ U.S. healthcare economy," noted James L. Madara, M.D., CEO of the AMA and chairman of Health2047. "Moreover, by ensuring that the physician perspective is represented in all major innovation cycles—gathering physician input at project onset, incorporating physician testing during prototype development, and leveraging the physician channel to accelerate market adoption of transformative healthcare solutions—Health2047 is greatly increasing the likelihood of substantive positive changes in U.S. healthcare."

Each project will touch on a particular foundational need important to the healthcare economy. This includes system-level solutions to chronic care; value-based healthcare and payments; connected health solutions; and collaboration models for physicians, providers, payers and patients. Projects are already underway at Health2047's studio in each target area.

According to Governor Michael Leavitt, former Secretary of Health and Human Services, "Meaningful change to the U.S. healthcare system requires combined strength, pooled knowledge, shared mission, and effective orchestration. It is very encouraging to see the AMA take a lead role in shaping the future of American medicine by providing Health2047 not merely investment dollars, but also unique exposure to its expertise and its network of diverse physicians."
